Convenor Simon Chan's wiff wafflings......

Further to my last article, ping pong is gaining worldwide popularity these days. On my business trip to New York last month, I came across publications and news articles about a Table Tennis themed restaurant in the Big Apple. The New York Times reported that secret ping pong societies are emerging, with pool halls removing billiard tables and opting for ping pong tables. There is also a ping pong restaurant. While I meant to visit Susan Sarandon's table tennis themed restaurant called SPIN, work and business meetings barred me from such visit due to a tight schedule.

In the US, ping pong has televised professional leagues, like the NBA. The US market (especially the equipment/ sportswear companies) has taken the sport to a different level.

In a way, our Club is a giant table tennis themed restaurant and bar (we just have more F&B outlets). Table Tennis (if not the best around town) is great fun at HKCC. Please join us for practice or competition matches. We are scheduled to play a few away games soon. Stay tuned for more info.

Meanwhile, in case any Members are visiting NYC this summer, here is a list of NYC Table Tennis clubs:

SPIN - a ping pong themed restaurant (www.spinyc.com)
Fat Cat - a jazz bar that has 3 tables
Slate - a ping pong hall near Madison Square Park

DISCLAIMER : I have not been to the above places and always stay safe travelling in NYC.

Last month's Question

Who were the two famous wiff-wafflers ?
Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, of course!!
The only Winner was Michael Mann.

Congratulations !!

Hong Kong Cricket Club

Table Tennis Society 08/09

After Hong Kong won its first Silver Medal in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games for men’s doubles in table tennis, the sport is gaining local popularity. Table tennis forms the foundation of many racquet sports and is used by professional athletes as an off-season training aid. The sport is also a fun way to exercise which can be played rain or shine.

Please be reminded to sign up for the Hong Kong Cricket Club Table Tennis Society. Practice sessions are every Thursday at 8.30pm in the Multi-Purpose Room.

- Thursday night friendly games
- Professional coaching (if there is sufficient interest)

- Annual Club Championship
- Members are encouraged to enter local open tournaments organized by the Hong Kong Table Tennis Association
