History

To share a little bit of history with you ¡V Ten Pin Bowling came from a long time ago. Archaeologists have discovered bowling balls, pins and other equipment in an Egyptian child's grave dating back to 5200 BC.! Another similar form of the game called "kegels" in Germany is dated back as early as A.D. 200. Certainly, the Ten Pins we play nowadays is not as ancient as you think, unless you are rolling stones to some wooden clubs!

The more recent form of bowling was recorded in England as early as the 1100s. In the Netherlands, people took up a related game, and it was the Dutch who introduced the sport to America in the 1600s. In America the game became very popular. But people began to gamble on the sport, and for a while it was looked on as an evil event. And believe it or not, "bowling at nine pins" as it was described was once outlawed in the state of Connecticut. Well...Kthe story doesn't end here, so don't ban your spouse from bowling just yet! To get around that law, some wise people added an additional pin and this was the beginning of the 10-pin game played today! By the mid-1900s, the sport was once again an accepted form of family recreation. And yes, bowling is a healthy game and we all love bowling!

HKCC Bowling League

At HKCC, bowling is more than just a family recreation; our bowling league comprises players of all ages, amateurs to pro. It's hard to find a single word to describe the league, but it's certainly a combination of fun and enthusiasm. We have six re-born winning teams from 2005, they are the Asia Niners, Winning Partners, Ave It, Alley Cats, Just Do It and Shooters in both Ladies and Mixed Leagues and not to mention all individual bowlers who were victorious last year. A combined prize presentation ceremony for the 05 and 06 winners is scheduled to be held at the end of this season.

Bowling Tips
Forgetting to Bring Your Key " In any multiple-pin spare, there is a key pin. It is the pin with which your ball must make contact if you're to concert the spare. It's always the lowest number pin, since that's the one closest to you.

Thus, for the 2-5, you aim for the 2 pin. For the 3-6, you need to make contact with the 3 pin. Because multiple-pin leaves require the ball also to make contact with a second pin, you do not want to hit the centre of the key pin. A very slight adjustment of where you stand on the approach will accomplish this objective."

New Members
I'm a golfer as much as I am a bowler, but Ten Pin is simply something that I can never get tired of playing. Perhaps it is the gathering, the fun and the joy that I share with my bowling buddies; perhaps it is the way it carries the spirit of sports. So, whether you are a family who would enjoy a casual indoor sport, or a pro who is determined to knock those 10 pins down, the bowling league at HKCC is definitely the right place to go! We welcome all bowlers from amateur level to professional level to join the league. I hope to see you there!
